We set sail at 0600 today on ‘Ferry Nymph’, the Dunkirk Little Ship. After a long crossing, we made it to Dunkirk with the flotilla. An incredibly proud day and the Talisman crew held up well. Words from ‘Captain Colin’ (not on the film)
“It’s a reasonably calm day today on our way over to Dunkirk. It gives a bit of a flavour as to what went on in 1940. This is the 85th anniversary and we’re going back into Dunkirk with some of our friends and colleagues.
And I think we’re going to have a little bit of a party when we get there (which is an understatement), before making the return journey in four or five days time.
This is my first journey back with the Dunkirk Little Ships, and feeling very proud to be associated with it.
God Save the King.”
We’ve always said that we “Work hard, play hard at Talisman”. Now, that has become “Work hard/sail hard” as we prepare for boarding the Dunkirk Little Ship ‘Ferry Nymph’ to take part in the Operation Dynamo celebrations. Think of us on 21st May, hopefully in fair weather, as we embark on a 10+ hour crossing.
We’re learning a whole new language at Talisman, prepping for taking part in Operation Dynamo celebrations the week after next. “Washboards” (in case of bad weather) have been fitted, the name plates are on the “transom”.
As we celebrate VE Day today, being involved with this Dunkirk Little Ship has made us realise just how the actions of ordinary people doing extraordinary things 80 years ago, is still so amazing and powerful. A real honour to support this project.

The Talisman Team continues to support ‘Ferry Nymph’, one of the Dunkirk Little Ships taking part in this year’s D Day celebrations. During a recent sunny weekend, a lot of prep and paintwork was undertaken. Plenty more work to achieve yet, plus prepping the Talisman team members who will be crewing during the momentous event. Sea Legs need to be acquired!

Talisman is honoured to support (and part crew!) Ferry Nymph – one of the “Dunkirk Little Ships”. May 2025 marks the 85th anniversary of Dunkirk, and Ferry Nymph will relive its historic past. She will be one of 70 little ships taking part in the Ramsgate to Dunkirk flotilla and the celebrations on both sides of the Channel.
In 1940, Ferry Nymph rescued 162 soldiers on two missions whilst constantly under fire. She was one of 870 civilian vessels to help rescue 338,000 soldiers from Dunkirk’s beaches. Her sister ship did not return.
We depart Ramsgate on 21st May and return 26th May. To be involved with such a significant celebration will be a huge privilege. We will post more news before and during the event.

Graham Cook was part of the Presenting Panel at the recent 𝘐𝘓𝘈 𝘈𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘍𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘦 event: “𝗔𝗜𝗙 – 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀”. ILA described the event as: “The highly topical issue of how members of governing bodies of funds and their managers can prepare and deal with macro-economically generated stress situations was examined from various perspectives.”
Graham Cook is taking part in an event organised by the 𝘐𝘓𝘈 𝘈𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘍𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘦. The event on 6th March is entitled “𝗔𝗜𝗙 – 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀”. The AIF Committee aims to help the members of governing bodies of funds and their managers understand and prepare for potential macroeconomics-driven stress situations.
It was a pleasure to attend the A&O Shearman Luxembourg event on 19th November at their impressive lecture facility. The event, Duties and Personal Liabilities of Directors in Luxembourg, was really informative. The key takeaway was delving into the details of the challenges that directors face. It provided a far greater understanding of distressed situations than purely the associated duties and personal liabilities. The information around cybersecurity risks and how active A&O Sherman is with clients was also really interesting. Congratulations to the A&O Shearman team and looking forward to future events.
The Talisman Sarl ‘Grand Tour’ of golf took place on 17th September, and good fun was had by all. Sadly, we couldn’t attend the ILA Golf Day this year due to a clash of dates – it’s a highlight of our business calendar. So, we created our own event, playing at Mercure Luxembourg Kikuoka Golf & Spa , then post-match celebrations at the Golf-Club Grand-Ducal De Luxembourg. Vintage Talisman golf shirts were the order of the day. Thank you to everyone who played and made the day so entertaining.
